Inspirational Entrepreneur: Samantha Broughton

Samantha Broughton PictureHaving experience as a Reiki and Crystal Healing therapist, Samantha now helps other holistic health professionals with their businesses. Her interview inspires us to remain persistent in our own businesses and to get crystal clear on our commercial angles.

What inspired you to become a holistic entrepreneur?

Someone needed my help, I knew how to help them but I was unsure to offer… my gut told me I should tell them what I know… and let them decide. I realised that communication is really powerful it changes people’s lives. We should all listen and talk more.

Tell us about your business or practice.

My business is made up [of] health professionals who take a month a time as head expert within my health program. They nurture an offer support to anyone who joins The Shift.. It is daily contact, not intrusive as it is based in an online Facebook group – so people feel comfortable at all times.  It also fits into busy peoples lives – the program was designed around the speed at which we all seem to live.  Everything is easy to create menu wise with a full shopping list so that you can remain on track.  If all that you need is in your fridge or cupboard then you can create what you need in that moment…

What is your current business model?

Online program – Free membership and support, the products required are paid for by the client – it is part of a referral marketing program. The Shift provides support and awareness within the client, not to mention incredible results… it’s emotional seeing people create a shift in their mind and their health. Our Product provider offers referrals and business opportunity for anyone who is a full-time consumer of their products.  The Shift is a support program that runs alongside.  People create their own amazing stories and experiences – when you can recount your only feelings and emotions and tell others, thats referral and that is the business.  There is such opportunity for anyone involved, which is holistic in its totality.  I also support the business opportunity to anyone who wishes to work with it within our team.

What has been one of your favorite moments as a business owner thus far?

Feedback from my clients… overwhelming, emotional, rewarding. I wasn’t prepared for that and its been the best feeling. Working with an amazing team of people all heading in the same direction – it just feels so good!

What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced in running your business or practice?

Building the whole program from scratch and getting my health professionals onboard – it’s a new way of working for me. Taking actionable steps and seeing results.. this will always be challenging but it is a realisation, that action creates movement, it creates change.

How have you overcome those challenges?

Persistence, everything is workoutable…as Marie Forleo often says! I agree 100% with her… in times of challenge you have to let go and flex with the process, step out of the box and communicate – someone else may see the answer so clearly! And in my case, they did!

How do you find new clients?

We run social media campaigns and we aim to be word of mouth referrals.

What have you found to be most effective in securing new clients to sign up for your services?

I think testimonials are powerful, social proofing and a desire to feel well again. This was very evident in the beginning there is a group that hold back and watch and there are the pioneers who head out first…it was interesting to watch!

What do you do to keep your existing clients engaged in the long term?

They all remain in our group and are gently nudged by their experts at intervals throughout the year to see if they are ok, on track or require any of their services.

As your own boss, what is your best strategy for staying focused and productive during your workday?

The need to deliver, people are counting on me – it creates my drive and focus.

If you could start your business over again from the beginning, what would you do differently?

Probably nothing… short cuts would be the obvious answer but the experience I have from doing it the hard way is irreplaceable.

What were some of the first mistakes you made that you would tell a new holistic entrepreneur to avoid?

I wasn’t clear on my commercial angles – at all! I didn’t have a product in the beginning… I just knew I wanted to create an online business.

What are the top three business tools or resources you couldn’t live without?

Canva, Pic Monkey and Smallpdf (Mailchimp too but me and Mailchimp don’t get on well at all!)

What has been your most effective method for growing your business?

Persistence, belief, consistency.

What is the craziest thing you’ve ever for done for your business?

What is your favorite indulgence?

Food wise: dark chocolate; Life wise: Spa days

Most exotic thing you’ve ever eaten?

Snails (yuck!)

Most memorable place you’ve ever visited?

I have many as I spent 15 years at sea! Arriving to a destination by sea is the most incredible feeling ever! Seeing in the distance the spot of land on horizon turn into New York for example…. A place that made my jaw drop for many reasons was Beirut.
